Title: Should it stay or should it go? (Items past expiration date)
Post by: mustachepungoeshere on July 23, 2016, 10:00:02 PM
I've just discovered my bottle of Dettol expired in August 2014.

Toss? Or ok to use?

My guess is that it just won't be as effective as a fresh bottle, but it wouldn't actually cause any harm.

Some things in plastic bottles (e.g. water!) have an expiry because the plastic begins to break down. I wouldn't have an issue with it, but you should check out the dates on some of the things in my fridge!

I'd likely personally use it.  I tend to use even if expired unless I want a good excuse for purging.  And sometimes I use the date to my advantage if something has gone bad before the date on packaging (food).  Happened recently to me with some refrigerated noodles and our grocery delivery was awesome about it and happily refunded.

What is Dettol?
An industrial strength disinfectant that can be diluted right down to first aid strength. A cross between pine-sol and dr bronners.
