Hello everyone,
Long time reader, first time poster. I'm hoping someone could give me insight on a work-related situation.
I'm a 25-year-old with no debt, no dependents, and approximately $35,000 in assets (savings/checking/Roth IRA.) Yesterday, after months of searching for a new position, I finally accepted a full-time offer with a Fortune 500 company to work as a database management associate, making approximately $45,000 a year. This position offers excellent benefits, including both a pension and 401k, health insurance, and more. But now I’m interested in maxing out my earning potential and striving for that coveted financial independence state.
At my current position, I work as a communications professional with a local church. I love the job, but I only made $20,000 a year doing part-time work.
Should I attempt to work both positions? I want to continue in the communications field (and hope to rise through the ranks of the new company and into their communications department) and think that continuing my work with the church will pad my resume when the time comes. I also want to continue saving for a house, retirement, and graduate school. However, I would be working six days a week, 65+ hours a week, and have very little down time.
Advice welcome!
