Upwork for writers?
« on: November 28, 2016, 11:45:01 AM »
Hi everybody,
I’m looking to pick up a side hustle as a proposal writer. I'd like to work remotely on my own schedule. I’m wondering about working through an online agency, possibly Upwork. Have any of you worked through them? How did the experience go?  Can anyone recommend additional online referral services for writers with which they have had good experiences? Thanks!

I previously found some good freelance jobs through Elance.com, but found that the quality of the jobs went down considerably when they transferred everything over to the Upwork platform. I'm not sure why that is, but it became considerably harder to find decent-paying jobs. I've still done a few jobs through Upwork, but rarely find many projects that interest me.

The best place I have found for quality writing jobs is http://problogger.com/jobs/. For me, even with quite a good portfolio but when I tried some applications via upwork recently I had no joy but that may just be me. All the best! :)

Hi Jade,
I just took a peek at problogger.com. I didn't see any proposal writer jobs. Have you seen them them there before?

Hiya,

I just did a search for proposal writer on the site and and one job came up (only a few days old) http://problogger.com/jobs/job/were-looking-to-hire-a-writer-who-can-contribute-to-our-new-blog/ - not sure if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. They seem to have quite a variety on there.

All the best!

Hi Jade,
Thanks for your follow up. The job posting seeks people to write bogs about proposal writing. That is different than what I do. I write the actual proposals. They say in the linked posting "We will start with 4 blog posts per month and go for more if you can deliver consistent quality work."  As a proposal writer, submit requests for grants to private foundations or government agencies. Did you see anything like that in the database?
