Credit scores and international moves
« on: February 02, 2015, 02:51:34 AM »
Hey there, hopefully someone here will be able to help me... I've lived my whole life in New Zealand but am looking to move to the US in the next year or so. I've got a very good credit rating here, although the only line of credit I have open these days is a Visa card which never carries a balance. I can see that within a few years in the US I'll likely want to buy a house, so I'm concerned that my credit-avoiding frugal ways could make attaining a decent score to get a mortgage difficult. Does anyone know if my existing score - given that a lot of it is tied to an international organisation in Visa - will transfer over once I move, or will I be starting with a clean slate again?  Thanks!

Not sure-

Maybe you can pull up one of your credit reports (1 free per agency per year) and see if the data is there for you?  annualcreditreport.com

Thanks bluecheez, a good idea but it needs a US address and SSN. Maybe something to try once I'm over there.
