Selling my mother's Camry
« on: September 13, 2013, 08:58:10 PM »
So my mom is 92 and can no longer drive. I want to sell her 2005 Camry LE for her. She can use the money, of course so I want to get as much as I can for her. It only has 12,600 miles on it and is in great condition other than needing new tires. Should I buy new tires? Post on Craigslist that it needs new tires? I thought I'd ask 11,500. Is that reasonable for the car? It was only driven to the grocery store, doctors appoinments and the hairdresser. My husband and I already have mustachian cars that are paid for so we don't need a car. Thanks

I think that is a good price to ask since the milage is so low.  We bought our car knowing it needed new tires.  How bad are the tires?  I would list it for that price and not worry about replacing the tires since you don't sound like you are in a hurry to sell it.  If no one is interested then go ahead and replace them and try again. Also, check Kelly Blue Book to see how your car compares the the asking price.

If we hadn't bought a 2005 Camry LE two years ago with 90,000km for 11,500 (CDN) I would be making you an offer. Not sure where you are, but that is a great deal for a great car. It is just before the Camry's started to go down hill with all of Toyota's problems - and if you happen to be a Camry fan, you'd see it as a deal.

Thanks Swick. We live in Massachusetts. I'll try posting on Craigslist as suggested and see if it sells needing tires at that price--11,500--The tires do need to be replaced, the car sat for the past 2 months and wasn't used much~~ maybe twice. It is I think a good deal for someone

I'd replace the tyres for as cheap as possible, and then list it.
