Title: Selling my 1998 Mustang
Post by: bikingfrommydesk on June 12, 2014, 10:37:44 PM
Hello,

I've been considering selling my Mustang for 2 years now.  I drive the car about once a month to go to a client.  I could use the family van for these trips if I had to.  The car costs about $30 a month to keep around and is taking up space in the garage.  I've had the car for over 12 years, so I'm rather fond of it.  Selling it would only get me $1200.  I can't seem to think of any good reason to keep the car other than I'll miss it, even though I never drive the thing.  If I had sold the car 2 years ago it probably would have been worth more and I would have saved myself $760.

2.5 years ago when I found this blog and my wife was pregnant with our first child I started biking to work every day, 12.9 miles round trip.  So far in 2.5 years I've driven to work 12 times.  That includes the four -15 degree days we had in Chicago this past winter.

Anyone want to punch me in the face and make me sell it?

Thanks,
Justin

It sounds like you've got your rhythm cycling and have a second vehicle when needed. I'd sell it and bank that $1200.

We only have the Mustang and the van right now for a family of 4.

We can't convince you, but it sounds to me like you have a pretty good argument to convince yourself.  :)

Thanks for the replies all.  I ended up selling the car last Friday.  I was sad to see it go, but I took lots of pictures.

This should save me about $30 per month.

You'll miss her (I sold my '99 Mustang a few years back), but it was probably the right decision.  Pictures were a good idea.  :)
