Selling coins / currency

I have some old coins and currency from when I was a kid.  Nothing in great shape, it has all been circulated.  I checked the general value of each online.  I am looking for any  advice now on how to sell it - are there better options than local coins shops? I expect those to give me rock-bottom value.

I would shop around the local coin shops.  If your coins are well circulated they may only be worth melt value so you want to know their spread. Some people like the well worn US silver coins as a SHTF currency so some dealers like to keep a supply of them.  A good coin dealer should give you a fair price, stay away from pawn shops and the like.

Thanks.  I wondered about pawn shops - my instinct was to avoid them for selling, as they likely offer even less than a dealer. I have wondered about EBay, but their policies favoring the buyer are a concern to me.  According to my internet search, anything worth more than face value was also worth more than the meltdown value.  But that search was a few weeks ago.  Pre-internet, in another city, I did ask a coin dealer about value, and in general it was shockingly low. Even as a poor student they weren’t worth selling.
