Selling a car with a lien
« on: November 03, 2016, 02:02:53 PM »
So i'm trying to sell a car that I had purchased last year with financing and I have an interested buyer. However, i'm a little confused on how I would make the transaction happen.

The lender is ford and it's not local to where I live so I can't just go in with the buyer, pay it off and then transfer ownership directly to the buyer.
I'm going to have to pay it off over the phone, they said it will take 7-10 business days to release the lien and another 15-20 days until I receive the title from the MVD.

How is the buyer going to be comfortable with giving me the payoff amount if they are not going to have the car and title for 30days. Is there a better way? has anyone sold a financed car?

In some states you can use an online escrow service like escrow.com. It didn't work for us in PA, though, and we wound up selling to webuyanycar.com instead.

Good luck!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
