Out of Debt, Good Emergency Fund, and Save Lots. How Much Do You Give?

We give to a couple of charities. About 1% of our annual income. We aren't churchgoers, so we don't tithe.  We are still on a tight budget after a business expansion expense.  Once revenue rises from that, we will give more.

So, how much do you give away? To who? Why?

I think its important to living a balanced life, and keeping a balanced attitude about money, possessions, and to engage in a broad way with the civil environment that has allowed us to live a relatively privileged existence.

10%'er here. We're planning on giving more to an orphanage home in Mexico once we get our retirement plan in order.

I give time, copious quantities of it, and write grant proposals for my favorite charities that bring in more than I earn in a year sometimes. But I virtually never give money personally. There's more than one way to give.

I give about 12%. Some to church and to many animal welfare /rescue groups, and to local public radio /tv, theatre, Doctors Without Borders, local homeless shelters.

I find that giving makes me aware of the abundance in my life, and helping others feels good.

I don't think giving is something that one has to 'keep up with the Jones's' about. That being said, we give 5.4% of our net income.
