Seed companies for new garden?
« on: November 29, 2017, 12:45:00 PM »
Any suggestions of particularly great ones?
I just placed an order at www.bountifulgardens.org for a few things.  They are closing so they have a 15% off sale (most seed packets are $2.13) and they have some rare things.

I like Seed Savers, though I am frequently more ambitious in the buying than the actual planting...

Www.artisticgardens.com. Sample size packets for $.40. I just bought 14 types, and it was $10 something (that included the flat rate shipping of $4.50)

I like urban farmer seeds. Www.ufseeds.com they have a lot of heirloom seeds so you can collect the seeds from your harvest and plant next year. Small packets are $2.00 and shipping is reasonable.

Baker Creek x 1,000,000

The day their catalog arrives is one of my favorite days of the year. It's the only print catalog/magazine I purchase and I page through it endlessly during -10F dark February mornings.

High Mowing Seeds
Lots of good information on the varieties of each veg/plant to help you choose.  Higher germionation rates than the standard seeds at the hardware store.

I have a lot of favorites, which I break into two categories: Region specific to the Maritime Pacific Northwest, and everything else.

My favorite seed companies:

I have ordered from all of these companies, and I really enjoy growing with their seeds. They have a lot of variety between them, and have some really cool stuff. They are all a little different, ranging from companies selling mainly to small farms to companies devoted to promoting genetic diversity.

Non-regional seed companies, that I’ve either ordered from, or heard good personal reviews about. Again, they have some really cool stuff.
