So, we just had a major thunderstorm with heavy rains and a possible lighting strike very close to my house (bulb sorta exploded on an overhead light). After the rain subsided we noticed the tap water and toilet water were discolored. Ran the water a bit and it runs clear but with noticeable sediment afterwards. Could the storm/heavy rain cause this to happen? It's late so we will have to wait until tomorrow to call the landlord or water company. I'm kinda scared to shower or brush my teeth to be honest.

We get sediment in our water after heavy rainfall sometimes, and any time the city flushes the pipes. Not enough to be visibly noticeable really, but enough to clog aerators all at once.
If you're worried tonight, you could probably filter through a paper towel or coffee filter and then boil it before use.
Also, if you're on city water, you utility should have an after hours line you could call. Every city I've lived in does.
