I have no opinion on whether the car is a good value or not...

However, I don't understand three vehicles for two adults, other than the car was inherited.  Personally, I would swap the Highlander for the Prius, as this is the greatest change in fuel economy.  A private sale would probably net you a better price--and you're a mustachian so you're not afraid to get you're hands dirty.  Then, craigslist the car.  This leaves you a high fuel economy vehicle for road trips, and a van for carrying cargo and such.
As for when you travel, leave the unreliable car at the airport, as it is not critical that it starts every day.

As long as the van is reliable for the period of time your wife needs it which for the most part seems to be the case I'd pass on the Prius.

Can't comment on whether the car is a good value, but why can't your wife give a ride to the airport when you travel?

In other words, why do you need two cars at all?

my initial opinion -

I'd get rid of the Highlander and get the Prius for save the van for hauling.
but then I saw the harp comment.

if the highlander is solid then I'd say pass on the Prius and sell the van for whatever you can get for it. do a cab or pay someone for their gas and time to give you a ride to the airport.

seems like y'all don't need two cars really.

I am glad you made the right choice.

Remember - if you do this mustache thing correctly you won't need 2 cars when you have kids because if you did everything correctly then one of you should be able to stay home with them.

My baby is 10 months old and my wife stays at home with her. We share a car and it's really not bad at all.
