San Diego restaurant recommendations
« on: January 05, 2018, 12:53:34 PM »
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this. We are planning a trip to San Diego and wanted to splurge (for us) on one dinner at a seafood restaurant on the water. During previous trips, I had gone to Anthony's downtown but am dismayed to see it has closed. We have 2 youngish kids and one family member needs to eat gluten-free due to celiac. We live inland so a trip to the coast is a very rare treat.

I'm looking for a mid-price restaurant within easy driving distance of downtown/Mission Valley. Any suggestions?

MMM is definitely not the best place to look for fancy seafood restaurants on the water, but I'll bite anyway :)

The first thing that came to mind is C-Level. On the water, close to downtown, good food and nice ambience for a special occasion. It's the less expensive version of Island Prime, which is adjacent. But it is still not cheap, because, you know, it's San Diego, seafood, and on the water. I thought of it because I actually took a Celiac there and they were very accommodating. They went in detail through the menu for her and even fried her chips in separate oil. Tip: their whole lot is valet so park on the street somewhere along harbor island. This way you also get a beautiful walk along the water with a city view on the way there and back!

If you're not looking for ambience but just great seafood, this is my favorite place:

This is very casual and on the water/outside:

Hope you enjoy your trip to San Diego!

Thanks Zinnie. Since we almost never take vacations and haven't had a fancy dinner out in 15 years...hopefully they won't revoke my MMM credentials for one meal. We'll brown bag it out of grocery stores the rest of the time...promise. ;-)

Thanks for the parking tip as well. I appreciate the information a lot.

Another recommendation...

This place is about 1000 feet south of the old Anthonys by the Sea.  Has a large parking lot in front.

Highlyyy recommend Peohe's (www.peohes.com). Pricey, but worth the money.
