Rowenta iron worth it?
« on: October 11, 2014, 10:31:08 AM »
Our iron broke down last week and now I am looking into buying a new one that hopefully lasts us at least another decade. I am thinking about buying this Rowenta iron from Costco. http://www.costco.ca/Rowenta-Steam-Force-Iron.product.100100493.html. Has anyone of you had any experience with Rowanta irons? Do you have any other recommendations?

Depends how much you iron.  My family swears by them, but they also iron nearly everything they wash so it is a workhorse tool.

If you only iron sporatically (once/week or less), you can probably find a cheaper option.  Maybe even scout out Goodwill or Salvation Army?

I'd say we iron about once a week (and then sporadically every other day). The other option I have in mind is this one http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/rowenta-rowenta-eco-intelligent-iron-dw6080u1-dw6080u1/10207055.aspx.

I like the fact that it's energy efficient.

Yes, it's more expensive short term but can be less expensive long term.  We had a B&D iron and it didn't work very well (sprayer & bottom coating) and broke after about 15 yrs.(rarely used).  Lower priced Rowenta irons GREAT and is about 7 yrs old.

Not sure about the newer models, but I bought one in '99 for ~$90.  It's still like new and I've had zero problems.  I also like that mine has a self cleaning feature so it can be used with regular tap water.

Ok, I realize this is a bit OT, but, I am not gonna lie, I haven't ironed anything in years. I think I must have a low standard/high tolerance for wrinkles. I just shake out all of our clothes when I remove them from the washing machine and hang them on hangers to dry. Shirts, dresses, pants---everything is mostly wrinkle-less by the time it air dries.

I iron quite a lot and swear by Rowenta irons.  Well worth the extra cost.
