Reward for opening bank account
« on: May 25, 2016, 01:58:38 PM »
Back at the end of December I opened Astoria checking account in hopes of getting $250 reward.  The conditions for getting said reward, as I understood at that time, was to keep $2,500 in the account for at least 90 days and to make 2 monthly bill payments for two consecutive month during the first 120 days.

On Monday I called the bank as I still haven't received my reward.  I came to find out that those 2 monthly bill payments were supposed to be of at least $25 each.  When I was opening the account, there was no mention of the $25 requirement and I had made 2 monthly $10 payments during the first two month I had checking account open, $40 in total.

I am absolutely positive that $25 requirement was not mentioned to me.  If it was, I would've just made $25 payments as it was not a big deal.

I am upset as I think the bank rep who opened my account simply did not mention it to me.  Is there a chance that they would credit my account with the $250 reward anyway if I go to the branch?  I am planning to go tomorrow to close the account as I have no need for it.  I can offer them to make these payments in the next two months and tell them that I would consider keeping account open if they would consider giving me the reward.  I believe it is there fault for not informing me of all conditions required, but I have no way to prove this.

Thoughts?

Did you check the fine print after the rep pointed it out? If it's mentioned in the fine print, they will probably not be willing to budge.  I've made that mistake before.  :(

Sorry that happened, it must be frustrating. I've done a lot of these successfully and my system is:

1) Take a screenshot of the webpage/flyer and email it to myself
2) Write down the important dates and requirements in a spreadsheet

I think the bonuses are triggered automatically, so if you didn't get it, it's likely that you missed something in the fine print. By the way, I find most of my bonuses on Doctorofcredit, because he summarizes the requirements very nicely, including for yours:
