Title: Republic Wireless in China???

Has anyone had any experience with using Republic Wireless in China? My 15 year old son is on the $10/month plan (Wi-Fi only). He will be leaving in August for 9 months as a foreign exchange student in either the Beijing or Shanghai area. I would like for him to be able to call and/or text periodically using a Wi-Fi connection. Has anyone had occasion to use their Republic Wireless in China or another foreign country?
