I've been wondering this. I can see it both ways:

a) free clothes! money I don't have to spend later!

b) we don't need new clothes. I don't want to perpetuate the consumer culture of buying whatever the world says you NEED, regardless of cost, to stay current with fashion, feel good about yourself, have trendy brands, etc. etc.

what do you all think?

Never heard of it, but I can infer what it is based on your options.

B.

Choice A is being cheap.  They have clothes they're perfectly happy with.  Getting something just because it's free that you don't need isn't efficient or good.

Or it might be very mustachian.  Get free advice from experts on how to improve one part of your life.  Get a free trip, $5000 in clothes, and lots of publicity for your blog.  Take over the show, be a co-expert, and have them help you find beautiful lower cost clothes at thrift stores.

if they did that that would be awesome.  i always hate how they throw out your whole wardrobe, give you 5000 to spend at norstroms and then you have like 2 shirts and 3 pants because they were buying brand new designer stuff

Except that most people wear 20% of their wardrobes 80% of the time. So buying fewer, higher quality pieces in classic styles (read: not trendy) that last more than a couple of years might be less expensive in the long run. Just another perspective.

Of course that depends on your definition of improvement.  Personally, I think my life improved a good bit when I got to the point where I could wear sweats & a t-shirt to work (I telecommute), and do most of my other clothes shopping at REI.

I think the whole point of "What Not To Wear" is that there's something wrong with the clothes they're currently wearing.

If I can't wear a t-shirt, shorts, & rubbah slippahs for most of my days then there's something wrong with my life, not my wardrobe.

If I went on the show for free clothes, though, I'd probably upgrade from "Goodwill" to "Crazy Shirts".

I think it would be interesting.  I loved watching that show at one point.

On one hand, I like being comfortable.  I live much of my life in jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops.

On the other hand, I am getting older.  After 2 babies and in my 40's, things have shifted.  And I hate shopping.  Sometimes, I think it would just be nice to get a little advice on the styles that work "for me".  Then, of course, I'd pick a few items that flatter my body and wear them until they wear out.

Actually, you know, I've done that already in the last few years.  I've found some quality items that work well for me.  Now I just need to lose the last 25 lbs of baby weight so I can actually wear them again.  :/
