Being Shadow Banned on Facebook ?
« on: December 05, 2024, 03:07:43 PM »
Rant mode on.

I am a member in 6 groups on FB. In 2 of them, my posts are either declined, or I can post, but no one else sees my posts.  My messages to the admins and mods are ignored, or maybe they can't even see my messages.

I was able to post in these 2 groups for a few weeks, until the problem started.
The other 4 groups are fine.

Maybe FB is messing with me, not the mods and admins.

I refuse to contact FB about it, since I am sure they would just make it worse.

The two groups that are giving me a hard time are partly political, and I suspect my opinion is not 'acceptable' to someone, even though they claim to be open-minded and tolerant of all perspectives, and that is why I am being what I call 'shadow banned'.

Occasionally I will get a pop up saying 'let's find a solution' which wants me to agree to the group rules. I click OK, and try to post again, but get the same thing. Declined. Message the mod and admin about it. Ignored.

I googled the situation, and lots of people have the same problem, and many are saying Facebook is broken, and can't be fixed, lol.

Anyone else have this problem?

Not necessarily looking for a solution, more of a rant and looking for fellow shadow-banned folks to relate to.

Rant mode off (until later)

Facebook.  (note rolling eyes)  I do use marketplace.  I don't even know how to use anything else in there, nor why I would want to.

Thanks, and well, yes, you are right. One alternative I use is Reddit. Can you suggest  any others, for local community interactions and discussions?

“ don’t use Facebook “is impractical advice for the communities you need to reach that are on Facebook.

My small town does very little with Nextdoor, hardly any engagement there. There are 2 to 3 key community Facebook pages that are active at a level. I would like them to be active which is 5 to 10 post a day.

I run multiple Facebook pages for hobby groups. Facebook is the platform used by people, my age, i.e. old people.

Find a club, sporting association, church, or similar where there are actual bodies in physical space.  Discussions on facebook are a pallid facsimile of real in person interaction.

Have you tried looking at the groups on a different device (esp a computer?).  Or tried a browser vs the app (or the opposite).  Sometimes the questions or agreements needed to be a "full" member of the group don't show up through some means of access.  If you try from another device you may be able to see something to resolve the issue.  Good luck.

I am a member of local groups, and yes, I get valuable info and camaraderie there, however the local Facebook groups have a much larger reach, and can fill in the blanks that actual in person groups may not be able to.

Indeed it is.

Oh, you refer to this particular problem...

Count your blessings, go build offline community, and staple up posters for events in the local places that have bulletin boards for such things.  If nowhere has such boards, create some and start using them.

Check your privacy setting. My setting are set so that only my friends can see my posts. Yours may be similar.

The two groups I use regularly are not political in any way. One is my local Buy Nothing group & the other is a parents group for  my son's college. And yes, MMM friends, the rest of my interactions are IRL.

Over the past few weeks, I've had two posts "declined". Neither admin of each group was 1) aware the post was declined or 2) knew why. Neither post broke any rules, and the admin was able to fish around & I think publish from their side. In one case, I just recreated & it went through. I haven't seen it since & have posted successfully in both groups since.
