Title: Ready to get rid of my gas guzzler.. lease or buy an electric?
Post by: jrasmussen10 on July 27, 2018, 05:58:30 PM
I have an eleven-year-old ford ranger with over 100,000 miles on it. It still runs great pretty well, but I don't have the auto mechanic skills to keep up with its maintenance and want to switch to greener pastures that don't require a gas budget. I don't drive much anyway (yay biking!) but I do live in a pretty isolated community on Oahu, Hawaii and make 1 or 2 trips into town (Honolulu) to go to Costco, the airport, etc. every month. I am looking at buying a used electric car or leasing a newer one. Which route do you all recommend? The three that I am looking at are the nissan leaf, chevy volt, and kia soul EV. Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Isn't power expensive there too?

Keep the ranger. I wish I kept mine. Bank the payments you aren't making.

How much do you spend a month on your truck (maintenance, gas) vs a car payment or lease payment for a used or new car? It sounds like you drive so little that having a monthly payment makes zero sense.
