Rating for Charities
« on: December 07, 2021, 09:04:58 AM »
Does anyone know of an easy to use site that evaluates charities on the best/biggest impact?  A while back (possibly a few years ago...) I saw a (some?) threads that discussed this.  I seem to remember the charity rating website suggested some specific charities that gave mosquito netting or provided clean water.  I can go search for those types of charities, but I'm wondering if there's some independent evaluator out there that is solid and easy to use.

Impact tends to be rather subjective, so most charity ratings seem to be related to overhead costs and advertising expenses. For example, Bat Conservation International spends 1/4 of it's funds on overhead, but what is the value of a brown nose bat relative to a starving kid?

This isn't quite what you're looking for but it might lead you in the right direction:

Might this be what you saw previously? https://www.thelifeyoucansave.org/best-charities/

I really love this organization, and they seem to be doing a really good job promoting effective charities.

https://www.charitynavigator.org/ perhaps?

+1 for Charity Navigator. Helpful in deciding whether to give to a charity or find alternatives.

I use Charity Navigator myself.

I suspect that the clean water charity is water.org.  Mosquito netting is probably the Against Malaria Foundation.  Both are highly rated by CN and the latter was promoted in a thread somewhere here on the forum at some point.
