I'm willing to spend on a purse, as someone said upthread, because I carry it every single day for years. I do not have a "wardrobe" of purses. My purse cost $200, is black leather, on the smallish side, and is cross body to keep my hands free for picking up children or grocery bags, etc. It is a designer bag, I suppose, but the logo is very small, and I didn't buy it for that. It holds exactly what I want to carry on a daily basis, and virtually nothing more. (Small wallet, cell phone and charger cord, eyeglasses case, small hairbrush, a pen, keys, and occasionally a checkbook. If I have to carry more, I take a tote. If I have to wear evening clothes (once every 50 years, lol), I have a couple small, pretty evening bags circa 1978 that I use. And that's it. I've dutifully looked in the Goodwill for bags, and never had a bit of luck. I ordered mine from Zappos--if I had not wanted to keep it, the return would have been easy.
