Question about Certified Pre-owned and Recalls

I'm in the car buying process currently and found the Mazda 3 to fit my needs. I'm hoping to negotiate the price down just a little bit because they priced these two pretty accurately. My two questions are:

1. How does the CPO affect the car price? I've included the link to the CPO program. There is a 10k difference in miles between the two cars, but to me it doesn't seem worth it, might as well get the car with 10k less miles.
2. The recalls on the silver, CPO car I'm assumed have been addressed, but the "Auto Check" still says they are "open".

CPO raises the price primarily because it comes with a warranty. How much the warranty is worth to you depends on how many repairs the vehicle will require during the warranty period. The current Mazda3 has been very reliable so far, so the warranty might not have a lot of value.

Recalls may not have been performed. You would need to check with the dealer to be sure, I think.

As I remember, it is illegal under Federal law for a dealer to sell a NEW vehicle with an open recall, but I think if disclosed concerning a used vehicle, it's OK, and CYA for them.  I always go here first:

BTW, nice rides.  I have never owned any Mazda vehicle that was not made in Japan, but I hear good things about Mexican made Mazda's like these.  Sometimes sales people in error or on purpose will say all of them are "made in Japan".  The car check will also make mention of this.  Final assembly, and major component content (engine/transmission), will however be listed on a new vehicles sticker. 

Make sure to ask for all service work done, and if indeed any recall work has not been done, it better before potential purchase IMO. Good luck

I'm only familiar with Subaru CPOs.  They add the Subaru factory extended warranty of 7 years, 100k miles with zero deductible.  That's $1000 out of the dealer's pocket, so they're going to add that to the car price.  You can also ask for a CPO car to not be CPO and take the $1k off the price and dealers will tend to do this.

I've only had one Mazda....a 6i that was built in the Mazda/Ford Flat Rock, Michigan plant.
