pretirement app
« on: March 26, 2022, 09:46:43 PM »
I used to use an app I really liked called “pretirement” to calculate my FI date, and it would also chart the date over time when I updated parameters and my NW.  I hadn’t used it in a while an my phone was set to offload unused apps.  It got offloaded and I can’t get it anymore since it is no longer available in the App Store.  Does anyone have this and know of a similar app?  I’ve looked and can’t really find its equivalent.

I also used that app and really liked it. They stopped updating it months ago so it no longer works on more recent iOS versions even if you still had it installed. :(

I have that on my phone, it’s a useful tool, hopefully it sticks around or something else good replaces it

@WanderLucky Well, that makes me feel less bad.

@JAYSLOL any chance you would be willing to connect to see if I could get it from you somehow?  I know this is a big ask, I think it would require you to go into itunes and copy it and email it.  I totally understand if you aren't up for this.

I'll be googling "how to develop an app."  Just kidding.  I don't really have time to allocate to that.  I could just build it in excel, but that's not a pretty app on my phone.

Where's the clever fellow that runs the mustache calc site?  I wonder if he would be willing to add something like like what pretirement was...

My own Google Sheet graphs are almost as pretty as this app was (which I had on an old phone, and had now forgotten about). They also show me a more optimistic FIRE date, which gives me the hope I need to keep going…

Edit: Oh, and I just use the Google Sheet app on my phone, so they are right there when I want to stare wistfully at them.

I can develop an app quickly for iOS and Android. Any chance you could share the functionality offered by the app? Is it just telling you when you'd FIRE based on your input? If that is the case, I could quickly translate my Google Sheet template into an app. Shouldn't be too difficult.

This would be amazing!  I wish I had screenshots.  Does anyone that still can access it provide them?  I also just resurrected a post in “share your badassity” because a Google search led me to realize that the guy that developed the pretirement app was on these forums years ago.

IIRC, you would input your DOB, your current retirement assets, your annual savings, an inflation rate, and a return rate.  Then it would show another screen with your stash amount, an FI date, your FI age, and include a countdown to seconds until that date.  There were two options for additional inputs on this screen for “what if I saved/spent $x (user input) more daily/weekly/monthly/annually.  And it would then tell you how much sooner or later your FI date would be.  There was also a beta section that graphed your FI age changes when you update your current assets. And the assets on the countdown screen would automatically update based on the return rate you specified.  So I could I put my current NW one day, and in a week it would reflect a higher amount based on the return rate.  And you could sit there and watch the app tick your NW up, pennies by the second.  (Or whatever rate it actually was.  Idk if that is a great description, a picture is worth a thousand words, but unfortunately I have none.
