Howdy helpful folks! My, you are an attractive & intelligent bunch :)
I've just switched phones. I don't want or need them to be on my new phone. What I do want is the ability to read them comfortably on a larger screen and easily delete most but save a few.
I've been searching how to download my texts from my old phone to my computer. Most sites recommend an app for this. I don't really want to go to the trouble of installing & learning how to use a new app. Is there a simple way to get my texts into a .docx file or something like that?
If not, what app have you used and do you recommend it? TIA!

On your windows computer, go to
https://messages.google.com
There is a download button on the top right.
Click the link in the middle "See how it works"
