Tiny Houses

Anyone watch this show on HGTV?

What's everyone's thoughts about the whole "tiny house movement"?

On one hand, I could see myself buying one if it was mobile (small enough to haul) and cheap enough (under maybe $25K)...but on the other hand, I've seen some 300 sq ft ones going for $50k, $60k, $70k+.  For those prices you could get a fairly roomy condo foreclosure or maybe even a small house via short sale.

I understand one of the major reasons people buy them are to decrease their 'carbon footprint' so to speak...with such a tiny living space you are forced to live with less stuff obviously.  I just watched a few episodes of the show on HGTV and this 21 year old young lady bought one for like $15kish.

Would you buy one?  Know anyone who owns one?

I know one woman who has one. She's in the military and her personal life goal is to run a 5k in every state. In her case, a tiny house dovetails well with her career and her hobbies. I'd maybe consider it, as I'm not particularly attached to my hometown and I could pull up roots If I wanted.
