Place to stay in New York?
« on: July 17, 2013, 10:25:26 AM »
I'm a female Kiwi Mustachian travelling around the States at the moment on a scholarship, and looking for budget-friendly places to stay in New York next week (July 25-Aug 1). I'm on Couchsurfing, which is a wonderful movement, and I'm also partial to sleeping in Korean jimjilbangs (24-hour spas with family nap rooms - a most civilised invention) - but wondering if anyone knows of any cheap, safe places to stay in Manhattan if they don't work out. Many thanks!

AirBnB is always an option.

Hey Sartorius,

Welcome to NYC. I live here and there's not too many "budget" options. In addition to AirBnB, you could check out this hostel.

I've never seen it myself, but a few friends have said it's fine and safe, etc.

Safe travels

Hi Sartorius!  welcome to the big apple :).   try checking out the YMCA as well- they have two hostels in the city, and they are fairly cheap.  another options is to stay in brooklyn or queens, near the subway, and buy a $30 one-week unlimited metropass (bus & subway).

I recommend Brooklyn. It's expensive but not as expensive as Manhattan. I'm doing an AirBNB in August in Brooklyn and using it as a base for both Brooklyn and the city.
