Good bike paths/routes in St. Louis?
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:23:20 AM »
Going to be down in St. Louis with the family for a few days in April. Any particularly good bike paths or trails to explore?

I'll be on what I think is the SW side of the city (Fenton).

Thanks!

Not Fenton but:

The Great River Road Trail might be worth the distance and Pere Marquette is a nice spot to picnic.

I'm quite a bit north of Fenton, but a good resource would be the Great Rivers Greenway:

St. Louis is not the most bike-friendly city around, but they've started making an effort in recent years.

The Katy Trail is good if you would like a really long ride.

This is as close to Fenton as you will get for a good bike trail. You will likely be a few miles west of this area, but it's not too far. This will take you past Grant's farm which is run by AB/Inbev and they have Clydesdale stables right along the trail which is pretty fun.

Another very close, very worth your time Mustachian place to go is Powder Valley Nature Preserve. It's PERFECT for your goblin's, I take mine there all the time. The inside is closed on Sunday/Monday, but the paved hiking trails are almost always open and there are varying levels of difficulty so good for families. Sometimes I see almost no wildlife, other times I see 15 deer running around.

I live about a mile from Powder Valley, so I might run into you. If you need any other ideas let me know.

Cool, thanks for the recommendation. The Grant's Trail one is pretty darn close. I don't remember our friend's exact address, but I know it's quite near Jefferson Barracks, because I remember that from last time.

Powder Valley sounds cool too. We'll only have 3 days down there, but we do try to make it down every year since I also have family in Clayton.

Powder Valley was cool for the twenty minutes we got before the heavens opened up and soaked us. Reminds me of a much bigger version of the park I lived down the street from as a kid.

Hurt my ankle on the third day there, so the only riding I did was going up and down Telegraph Rd running errands. Oh well :)
