Title: Pay-as-You-Go Car Insurance
Post by: szforsy on July 03, 2015, 10:51:38 AM
Hi!

I have a 2007 Ford Focus that is only driven once or twice a month.  I've heard there are policies where you just call or do something online to activate the insurance when you plan to drive the car, and otherwise leave it uninsured.

Does anyone have experience with such a policy?  I'm currently with Amica, and I've just emailed my insurance agent if they have something like this.  But in case they don't offer it, I'm wondering if anyone has had success with such a policy at another company.

Thanks!

My husband is currently using the snapshot from progressive. It plugs into the car for up to 6 months and monitors usage, what time the car is driven, and any quick deceleration. So far we have saved money and hope we save more once the trial period is over. The car is only used a few times a week. I'm not sure about other policies.

I love the idea but I can still get cheaper rates through Geico, so I just stick with them. Hopefully more insurers will do the pay-as-you-go plan and help drive down rates.
