Title: Patching the crotch of jeans
Post by: Frs1661 on September 29, 2016, 04:22:28 PM
I find that my jeans always wear through at the crotch first (between the legs, under the taint), while the rest of the pants are in fine shape. It seems a shame to throw them out, but I can't exactly be flashing my underwear at work. Anyone know of a good patch method for this failure?

Used to use this repair technique all the time.

Great trick! It might even be worth doing this to other pairs ahead of time to prevent holes.

I've used it, too. Here's a blog post with my results and some photos of my project: https://frugalparagon.com/2015/10/06/mending-time-adult-pants-problems/

thanks for posting the instructions.
I gave it a try last night on a pair of my wife's jeans.
I have to say, my needle work looks terrible! ;P
I will keep practicing and see if I get the hang of it.

Can you use glue?  I use Tear Mender (purchased on amazon) to glue my husband's belt loops back on.  The stuff is pretty powerful.

I just ripped the crotch on a pair of jeans, and between that and this thread, I am interested in revisiting basic sewing (mostly patching, but also hemming, redoing pockets, etc.).

I'm essentially starting from nothing at this point, aside from a basic hand sewing kit...so I need recommendations for tools, materials, and instruction.

Help?

There are tons of videos on You-tube, and sewing groups on Facebook, etc. Look up a few. The one I'm in is very willing to help.
