Parabolic heaters

Anyone have experience with one of these?

I was thinking about getting one for the bedroom on chilly Northeast nights like this and the ones to come, in lieu of firing up the burner for the whole house.

Are they effective? Efficient?

I don't remember liking our parabolic heater that much.  But I think heating up a bedroom or living room you're in, while keeping the rest of the house at a lower temp, is a great idea.  The only rub is that you don't want pipes freezing...

I can't remember all of the reasons how or why, but with those kinds of heaters, they heat up whomever is sitting in front of it.  They do not heat up the room.  I would therefore advise against one.

I have a couple of Delongi oil filled radiator style heaters - they work great to heat up a room.  Not sure how efficient they are though.
