Tips on vetting landlords/home rentals?
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:23:42 PM »
I'm looking to find a new place to rent, but every single property management company I run across on Yelp and other review sites sound like a bunch of slumlords, despite the splendid pictures of their rentals on Craigslist. If you're not interested in buying, how do you best screen potential landlords? It seems like a total crap shoot no matter what you do.

I ask because I haven't moved in eight years so it's been a while since I've tried to find a new place to live. Just wondering if there some strategy that helps or some kind of "Angie's list" for landlords. I'm suspect of many positive online reviews of landlords as so many turn out to have been written by management staff and negative reviews often get deleted. It just seems unfair that they make potential tenants go through such an extensive background check but renters have no way to screen their landlords.

It would be nice if Mustachian property owners could somehow connect with Mustachian renters around the country.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
