Title: Orange flames from my cooktop burners...help please!
Post by: Omy on January 23, 2020, 08:08:51 AM
Ok smart people...I have noticed on 2 or 3 occasions that the flames from all four burners appear orange instead of blue. Is this a problem with the cooktop...or something the gas company is doing?

Well, it means too much air is getting mixed in with the gas.
How that's happening...?

I don't understand it. If it happened all of the time it would make more sense to me. The orange is almost "fluorescent", so I thought it might be something the gas company had added. Anybody else experience this?

Orange flames are burning cooler than blue flames. The google says this is due to a fuel mixture imbalance, most likely from dirty burners or from the wrong valve thing (natural gas and propane require different ones). Since it's new it seems likely that it needs cleaning and not that it was improperly installed. Here's one such result (https://www.hunker.com/12003355/why-is-my-gas-stove-burning-orange), but there are plenty more if you want to do more research. This seems like a good video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEk4aIgB1FU
