Title: Open stock glassware
Post by: Trudie on January 23, 2015, 10:41:04 AM
Hi,
After breaking lots of glassware and having odd numbers of mis-matched sets of drinking glasses I've decided that I just want to start buying open-stock glassware and replacing it as each piece breaks.

Does anyone know if Target (my preference) or any of the other big box stores have a decent selection?  I'm not a Wal Mart fan but will go there if I have to.

I live in a smallish town, so do not have easy access to Crate and Barrel or IKEA which are obvious sources of the stuff, unfortunately.

Look online, you're find a much better selection. I've been consistently underwhelmed by what's in the stores.

Plus one on Picardie. We just got a set and my favorite part is how comfortable they are to use. Never thought I would say that in glassware but I definitely noticed it once we switched.

This is funny --- We must have 300 glasses at home.  About 4 cabinets worth of just display glasses and collector stuff.  Virtually none of our glasses match.   Once in awhile I sneak 10 or so into the trash when the SO isn't looking.  Would love to get down to just 10 glasses and I could care less if they match.

Have you thought about using canning jars?  Very trendy and used by many restaurants.  The ultimate in "open stock" and very sturdy.

They come in 8, 12, 16 and 32 oz. sizes (also 24 oz. but very hard to find).  You can get a dozen for about $10-$12.
Don't buy from Amazon or on-line in general...cost of shipping glass is expensive.  Try Ace hardware (free ship to stores) or Smart and Final.
