Social Security Calculator?
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:47:30 PM »
Does anyone know of an excel based Social Security calculator that can help calculate benefits for early retirees?  Almost all of the ones I find will only perform calculations assuming you continue working until early/full retirement age, rather than stopping work at a future time and deferring until age 62/67/70?

It's not an Excel spreadsheet, but the SSA website offers a calculator where you can enter in your own earnings numbers and choose an arbitrary "retirement" date:

Not Excel, but the best I've used for claiming strategies, as well as early retirement with less than 35 years of contributions:  http://www.bedrockcapital.com/ssanalyze/  (also ranked "Best of the bunch. User-friendly and easy to customize. * * * * *" by wall street journal article on free Soc. Sec. Optimizing calculators in July 2014.)

Edit to add:  I think you'll have to use FiveSigmas link to get the PIA to plug into Bedrock's tool....  It's been a while...

You could go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov/planners/benefitcalculators.htm and choose among the options there (including the one mentioned above).
