Title: On the move again
Post by: Bearblastbeats on April 06, 2015, 01:46:47 PM
Wow this year has all ready been pretty crazy.

Between moving 4 times in 2014 and having 3 different jobs, I finally landed a decent residence in Dover, NH. I initially moved this way for work in York, ME. That job ended in January When I decided to take a FT permanent position in Lawrence, MA..

This past weekend my band started to rent out a band room for practice in Manchester, NH, where I am originally from.  We practice about 3 times a week, meaning that Tuesdays I drive from Lawrence to Manchester (45 minutes) then back home to dover (45 minutes). My commute to work from Dover to Lawrence is 45 minutes.

Should I just move back to Manchester since there is literally nothing keeping me where I am now. It's just me and my dog..

Hey! Well, assuming practice is important and the location is fixed in Manch then it would be a step in the right direction. You'd save the 270mi/wk in travel (3x, 90mi round-trip).

But you commute to Lawrence 5 days a week right? you'd optimize better maybe living somewhere in between Manch and Lawrence - closer to Lawrence (3:5), and likely you could reduce cost of living vs Manch.

This all assumes you don't have a strong preference for location based on other factors. I used to live in Dover, which was nice but small and getting to places took a lot of time with all the lights. In Manch, 293 and 93 make some routes a lot faster.

I was thinking maybe Salem. I lived in Manchester for the past 20 years, untill about 8 months ago.

I like Dover, my brother is close by who I see a couple times a month.

Manchester has all of my friends and the band so that's a huge factor on the weekends as I spend the weekends crashing on someones couch anyway.

I lived in Manchester when I worked in North Andover, so the commute is all too famiiar.

The only kicker right now is I rent a room for 580 a month with everything included, so I'd like to rent with a friend to keep expenses down if I could. I can afford to live on my own I just don't know if I want to.

I guess to add to this post would be the question to whether I should share a place with someone or live alone.

I take home $700 a week salary so i can afford it. I have a lifelong friend who wants to room with me but after trying that before, I am not sure if its a good idea. he enjoys having people over all the time and drinking and though we do share a lot of mutual friends I prefer my privacy and a quiet home after long work days. He also can be a bit of a dickhead to most of my personal friends where they don't like to visit when he's around.

As much as a brother he is, and we have looked at a few places together, I think it would be better for me to just live alone and see people on my own terms.

I currently rent a room at 580 a month bethinking included, so what do you guys think I could afford with the following:

Take Home Pay = $693/weekly
Car = $297
Insurance = $125
Dog food = $70 or so
Phone = $110
Netflix = $7
Gas = fluctuates but I drive an impreza
Band room rent = $50/per person a month
