Title: Now what?
Post by: Bearblastbeats on May 02, 2013, 08:24:26 AM
What do you do when you have nothing more to do ATM.

+ I finally finished paying off my attorney
+ I'm throwing large stacks at my student debt (Only 7500 left)
+ I pay zero dollars for rent
+ I live with roommates which keep out utilities SUPER low (internet, gas and electric runs less than $40 a person a month)
+ I cook nearly every night a week (maybe indulge on a weekend :x) I bag lunch and breakfast everyday for work and I brew my own coffee/Iced Coffee

I do plan to save for a newer used fuel efficient car before Feb '14
I do plan to save for another 2-4 years and buy some property

My hobbies are generally free other than essentials like new heads and sticks for drumming (drumming, biking, video games)
I don't watch tv but if I do watch a show I DL them for zero dollars.
I have no idea on how to invest, and I'm kind of not interested in it right now in my life.
What am I missing? I feel bored from time to time unless I get a little drunk and then drum, I don't NEED to get a buzz but its nice.

Funny you say that because I do enjoy to refurbish old kits from time to time, I don't have the machinery to build sticks though haha.

Those are good goals to have.

Not sure how young you are,  but regardless, it might make sense to invest at least a little bit every month for retirement.  Even if it is only 100 dollars a month.

Seems like you have a good idea of what to do with your money (pay off student loans, save for a car and eventually property) - you're asking what to do with your time. So many possibilities - start a side business (bike repair/fix-up-and-sell?), join or start a(nother) band, take classes/lessons by barter (drumming or bike repair lessons for...whatever the other person can do lessons), volunteer at some charity you like...

Its funny you say this because I:

Install and clean flooring on the side with my brother's flooring company every couple of weekends.
I also have been renovating houses for over a decade and always take on projects from time to time.
I also have been helping a friend of mine with his custom drum company building drums.
One of my roommates and I have 10-15 bikes in my garage which we all ready do fix up and sell.
I play drums 3-5 days a week, so I get my fill there at least.

And I'm only 26. I used to manage my mother's estate for a few years. I used to have a few nice cars but hit a situation where it brought me back to square one (hence the attorney reference)

I guess I'm just an insatiable daydreamer?

Sounds to me like you have lots of stuff going on in your life.  I am assuming you have a job?

Two points:

1. Learning to care for your money through investing is something that a young mustachian must do.  It doesn't take much time and effort to figure out a good combination of index funds and such but you sound like you will soon have extra money to put to work and work it must!

2. If you have lots of free time (which it doesn't really sound like you do, I got tired just reading all of your various activities), volunteer for Habitat or with some other organization who helps people.  Helping others brings an additional source of peace and joy to life.

Depending on how many bands you play with, you might want to narrow it down to one (worthwhile) project.  I'm sure someone who has his money situation figured out would be a godsend for someone that was trying to get a project off the ground.  It's not like there's a lack of things that need to be done for a band that's just starting.
