Self employed HSA without dental, I haven't needed a ton of dental work over the years and I invest the HSA, so all my spending is out of pocket.

Got my first crown today (wow, what fun). Actually just got the temp. The permanent is two weeks out (two weeks from everywhere!)

Paid $700 cash. Price to use debit or credit $1,100.00

Anyone have some numbers to compare?

Also, I didn't ask for the cash discount, it was offered. I normally put all spend on cards.

I think mine ran around $800 and the insurance paid half.

Mine was $1200.  Insurance covered "half" but only actually paid $200.  I paid the rest with credit.  I'll ask about a cash discount next time, but doubt it would be that generous.  Cash vs credit card is only saving them 3%, so it doesn't make much sense to offer more of a discount than that.

Not suggesting this since I have no experience.  I would be interested if anyone had any dental work done in Mexico.  Be good to hear some first hand accounts of the experience and the price.

I've just been quoted about US $1200 for a crown, insurance won't cover. About US $2500 for root canal, post and crown. This is in Hong Kong. Typically I'd go to Thailand for expensive dental work but with our quarantine and covid situation, that's not an option.

I got two crowns last year and they were $1350 each. Insurance covered some (50%?) and I paid the rest. Dentist offered a 5% discount for non-credit card payment upfront.

Yes, but the business had never enforced masking for its nonmedical office staff nor for customers even pre-vaccine when the city had a masking mandate, let alone as late in the pandemic as the Omicron surge. I skipped two cleanings b/c of their policies, but obs couldn't skip a crown. Their lack of interest in masking is absolutely par for the course in this deep red, super religious city.

Crown - almost $1200.  Different, deeply cracked back molar extraction - $470! (although so nicely done I didn't even need pain meds).  Implant, assuming I decide I need that back molar - $2300.  Crown and abutment - 2400.  No insurance, natch.  When I add it all up, I'm starting to think I may not really need that back molar after all.  Sheesh.
