No 401k/403b at work

Hello all, I have been reading through this forum the past few days and have become a big fan. However, to my dismay, it seems like I won’t be able to take advantage of some of the tools others use to achieve FIRE.

For example, as opposed to a standard 401k/403b plan, my employer contributes 10% of my base to a SEP-IRA (I cannot contribute). I know this is not a bad scenario, however it does seem like a lot of the strategies used here go through the 401k/403b plans. Also, I cannot take advantage of an HSA as my employer only offers a PPO healthcare option (pretty favorable) as opposed to a high deductible plan.

I currently have no debt and contribute the max ($5500) to a Roth IRA each year. What’s bumming me out is that it seems after I contribute to the Roth, the next step for me is taxable accounts (as opposed to the beneficial methods listed in this forum such as "mega backdoor roth" etc..) I appreciate it if any mustachians can point out something I am missing. Thank you!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
