Hello,
We're not a serious credit card hacking family, but I'm happy to switch to get a good bonus on things I'm buying anyways. In reverse chronological order, we we did
- Chase Ink Plus (me, open): 50k points on 5k in three months. This was a stretch, but we had some medical bills from December that we knew we would pay, so we signed up Jan 1. Hit our minimum spend this month for the bonus, will cancel when the money is in my pocket.
- Sapphire Preferred (wife, open closed): canceled in January when we started the Ink card.
- Chase Freedom (me, open): still open but never use. Keep our eyes open for 5% deal on gas, otherwise ignore.
- Priceline (me, open): had a work re-reimbursed trip last year. Haven't used it since. Should probably cancel as well to capture sign up bonus later.
- Sam's mastercard (wife, open): good gas reward, shop at Sam's once a month (really twice as often as not). Focus on bulk staples: flour, oil, produce. No costco in area.
- Sapphire Preferred (me, open): started about 2 years ago, downgraded to regular sapphire when the anniversary came up. Closing it will be an action item tomorrow.
- Amazon visa (me, open): We end up buying a lot from AMZN. My student prime membership gives them an advantage.
- Target visa (wife, open): 5% at Target is always useful. Don'tWe always price check against think this offers sign up bonus.
Credit scores: 770+ me, 800+ wife.
We're not planning any trips, so mileage cards are not very attractive.
I've been thinking about the Citi Thankyou Premier, as it has a lot of points for sign up, but I'm not sure the points are useful.
Also thinking about some low spend, low reward options while we wait for the higher reward items to become eligible again (e.g. sapphire).
