New job has no HSA, what to do?
« on: January 13, 2022, 08:51:24 PM »
Hi,

I've amassed ~15k in HSA from my current job, and have accepted an offer at a different firm. However, my new job will not offer a HSA option.

With that said and not thinking more into it, I also had a surgery come up and needed to use ~6k from the HSA.

Now, since the new job won't provide a HSA option, what should I do with it once I switch jobs?

You can still use your HSA funds if you no longer have an HDHP, but you will not be able to contribute more.   You'll have to sign up for whatever your new company has for its health insurance.

No HDHP = no HSA contributions allowed.  That's almost certainly why your new company doesn't offer it.  I say use the HSA to pay for the surgery.

You can usually unlock investment options in an HSA account and use it as an investment until you need it.  If you don't have investment options in your old HSA, you can also open your own HSA account, and move your old one over to it.  Some people suggest moving your old HSA account anyway.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
