Net Worth Calc - Pension Accrued or Projected?
« on: November 01, 2017, 06:26:48 AM »
Was curious how folks with defined pensions account for them in their FI and NW?  Wasn't sure if most used an accrued basis or projected based on the annuity/LS payout date.

In my scenario, once vested, you are eligible to receive the benefit as early as the first month after your employment termination/retirement regardless of age.  If you want to start receiving the annuity prior to 60 an immediate commencement discount is applied.  So on one hand you've got the accrued number from if you left the company tomorrow and took the lump sum asap (with discounts).

You have the alternative option, if terminating tomorrow, to not start the annuity/payout until after 60 with no penalty which gives you a project rate for disbursement at 60-65.

No set ER objective for me, but the funds would likely not be touched until after 60 unless rates look better for rolling into an investment account.

Just trying to understand how most folks would handle this in their planning.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
