Need Homeowner Insurance Claim Advice
« on: July 19, 2017, 12:28:49 PM »
Hi guys, I found my garage header beams are completely rotted out.  As a Mustachian, DIY repair was my first option.  However, as I started taking apart the siding, flashing, etc. I found that the damage was beyond any reasonable DIY project.

I read my insurance policy and it looks like it is covered as long as it is not insect damage.  Obviously the insurance company is going to try and find a way to avoid paying.
I normally would avoid filing a claim for fear of increased premiums but the damage is probably in the ~$10k range; a good chunk of change.  Any advice, tips, tricks, or pitfalls to avoid when filing a claim?

Thanks!

I highly doubt that's covered. Rot is usually excluded, so is constant and repeated seepage of water over a period of weeks, months or years, so is poor workmanship and so on and so on.

I'd read that policy again, specifically the exclusions section.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
