Title: Need advice for things to do this week in LA and San Diego
Post by: a1pharm on November 05, 2016, 04:23:51 AM
I'm going to LA and San Diego to visit friends and family.  I'm not interested in doing expensive tourist trap things and would like advice for specific things to do, mustachian style.

HELP!

Welcome to San Diego! Here are some activity ideas:

1) Hang out in Balboa Park
2) Go to the beach. Of the various beaches here, our favorite is Pacific Beach. Eat some Taco Especials from Oscar's Mexican Seafood while you're there.
3) Rent a bike and ride around Coronado
4) Lack of shame required: do a tour of the bazillion breweries in the area and just ask for free tasters at each one
5) Go hiking at the various trails available. One example is the Blue Sky Reserve in Poway.

LA: Griffith Observatory (free, I think; the view is beautiful at night), The Getty Museum, hiking in Malibu, hangout at Santa Monica Beach. San Diego: Coronado, Balboa Park, hang out and see the seals in La Jolla, kayak out of La Jolla, take a surfing lesson if you've never done it (not super Mustachian, but a fun experience), and then grab burgers at Hodad's in Ocean Beach, hang out at Torrey Pines beach

Two things not to miss...One is the Griffeth Observatory in Los Angeles.  You can spend the entire day there.  Free, Free, Free.  Trails to hike on.  Free demos and presentations at the observatory.  Bring a picnic.

The second thing to not miss is Torrey Pines State Beach and Reserve.  There is plenty of parking outside of the park for free!  Don't come on the weekend- it's over-run with people.  You can walk up to the reserve and visit the visitor center and hike around the park or spend some time on the beach.
