Title: My wedding band is too small
Post by: Gin1984 on February 05, 2016, 12:29:18 PM
While pregnant my wedding band became too small because my hand swelled.  I waited and after giving birth was able to go back to my ring.  Well, sort of.  It was still tight.  And lately it has been too tight, leaving marks into my skin.  Either I need to enlarge it (not sure about that) or buy a new ring.  However, I do plan to have another child and I have no idea if my hand will enlarge even more.  Advice?  And if I do purchase another ring, where?

It only costs $40.00 to have it made bigger where we live so I would just do that.

Getting them enlarged is generally pretty doable, as is making them smaller. Both are much easier with plain bands (smooth and diamond free). I think if there's enough metal there they can kind of "stretch" them, and if not they cut it and add some metal. Definitely worth talking to a few jewelers rather than buying a new ring.

You should probably wait until you have the other child and have settle in to whatever "final" weight you feel comfortable with, and just wear the ring on a necklace or leave it someplace safe until then unless that really bothers you or your spouse. No sense constantly getting your ring resized.

We purchased a ring second-hand and then had it resized. While it had some allegedly tricky tiny diamonds on the sides of the band, they still did a beautiful job and it was not expensive.

It is genuinely bothering me not to have it on my hand right now.  I know it is silly (which is why I was waiting) but it is bugging me to no end.

This is probably no help to you, but I keep two wedding rings.  They're both simple <$100 palladium bands, though.  Use different ones at different times of the month. I can't imagine what pregnancy will be like.

How long has it been since you gave birth?

My feet got bigger and right now I can only wear about 2 pairs of shoes.  My doc told me to wait throwing things out and buying bigger sizes because it can take up to 18 months after giving birth for the body to get back to normal.

Three years.  I heard the 18 month thing.  They lie, my body did not go back to "normal".
;) :P
Feet are wider, I have bigger boobs, hips are wider (and I have a stomach, lol).  And then the hand thing.

Through the years I have had my ring resized many times.  It's no big deal and cheap so just do it. It sounds like it will bring you pleasure. Every time I had a baby my feet got a half size bigger-ugh! I had big feet to begin with and had 3 kids.  Nothing ever goes back to the way it was-sorry.

I have a plain gold band, bought from a mom and pop place.  It was cheeeeeeeap.  :) If it's not a lot more to buy a bigger one than to resize I would just get a bigger one.  (Or if you don't mind wearing a different style than the original.) There are lots of reasons why having two sizes is practical (DH's fingers swell in the summer, for instance) and pregnancy can do weird stuff to our bodies. :P After you're done having kids you may find the bigger size is your new normal...  Or not.

Stick it on a chain around your neck.  It's closer to your heart that way, plus it won't constantly be irritating your hands when doing stuff.
