Winco vs Costco
« on: May 09, 2013, 09:19:17 AM »
Has anyone done I price  comparison on Winco vs Costco?  I recently moved to Beaverton, OR and have been taking advantage of Winco, which has decent quality and is cheap!!! I will probably get a Costco membership eventually but am making sure that it will be a good benefit for a single dude.  I mean doesn't most stuff at Costco come in bulk?  I crockpot the majority of my meals so I guess bulk could be good, just wanted to get a feeler if anybody has considered this dilmena before.

We have a Winco and Costco in Boise.  We use both but we are a family of 6 so we can burn through a giant bag of organic baby carrots (from Costco) in two weeks.  Winco does have lower prices on a lot of things - oatmeal comes to mind.  You can go to Costco and tell them that you just want to look around - they will let you go in and check prices/size of containers before deciding if you want a membership.  Or you can go in the store with a friend who has a membership and have them buy stuff for you - I know a lot of people split the cost of a membership this way - they just have to coordinate their trips.

I use both as well.  Here's a bit of a breakdown on what I buy where:

Carrots (2 lb bag, $0.88)
*Baking power
*Baking soda
*Beans and lentils
Yogurt for starter
Frozen juice concentrate

String cheese for kids lunch
Dried blueberries
Sliced turkey breast
Over the counter meds (allergy meds, tylenol, naprosyn, vitamins)
Olive oil
Chocolate chips
Frozen berries
Frozen vegetables

Bottom line is that I use each for different things.  The membership is definitely cost effective for us.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
