My truck needs the clutch replaced
« on: September 29, 2016, 11:18:02 AM »
The truck is at about 120,000 and has otherwise run well.  Would I assume this is a fix it and keep going or a this is a bad sign and the truck is going to be a money hog?

Clutches are wear items, like brakes (albeit usually with a longer service interval, unless you operate it poorly). So no, it's not a bad sign.

Agree. Clutches are a normal wear item, just like tires and oil filters. If it's at 120,000 mi you've actually done well with it. I had to replace the clutch on my Mazda5 at 120,000km. I was not pleased. Normally I don't do them until after 150,000km.

To make it last longer, use it sparingly. Don't "ride the clutch". Change gears and then release the pedal. For this reason, stop and go city traffic is hard on them.
