Coding Online Boot Camps

Hi All,

Does anybody have any direct experience with the various Online Coding Boot Camps available? The reason I ask is I am in need of a career change and I think that this may be something I enjoy.

Here is some background as I think it may be relevant to the advice I am looking for.

1. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in engineering therefore I don't believe I necessarily need more pieces of paper, I need the actual skills so I can apply for a job confidently.
2. I am willing to take an entry level job with corresponding pay cut, if necessary, to make this career change.
3. I want to be as frugal as possible but am willing to pay for better courses if it will pay off in the long run with the skills I learn and job prospects I can land.

I did the treehouse coding for awhile. As you take the tutorials you can get started making websites you can start freelancing through upwork. Freecodecamp.org claims that people have gotten work through them. But they all have claims that you can get work through them. I don't think it matters which one you choose as much as your ability to get through all the material. You can take the classes you need through the harvard extension school or coursera. It depends on what you want to do. There was a bubble that burst and you can't get a junior developer job right out of a online boot camp anymore. But if you study machine learning or natural language processing you'l have your pick of jobs.

Check out Coursera.  They have online classes in various fields made by University instructors.  They try to make you pay for the course certificates, but you can "audit" individual courses for free.  I've done a couple courses (machine learning and data science) and they were great courses.  I'm not sure the value of the "certificates", but it sounds like you don't care, so you should do the free courses.
