My dad's Panama bike trip
« on: August 11, 2016, 01:09:47 PM »
My dad wants to bike from ocean to ocean. I guess from Panama city to the Atlantic. Is this feasible?  His Panamanian friend told him to take a bike tour because of the crime. I was thinking of giving him the number for adventurespanama.com, which does trips for 100 bucks. I think he thinks he can do this in a day...

Is his life a bit more sorted out now, or is this just a daydream for his entertainment?

Lol, his life is not sorted out at all. But he's going to Panama on Monday!

<face-palm>

Okay, well, I hope he has a good time?  Hopefully someone here has some advice for the bike thing!

If he still needs advice, check out crazyguyonabike.com and the forums there.

I've cycle toured in plenty of places that most people would consider crazy (but not Panama...yet). Its not as bad as you think. He'll be fine and have a great time.

If you use this link, you'll see 43 tour journals of cycle tourists that have cycle toured in Panama. That's a fairly high number relatively for a small developing country.

I'm not sure about the security of doing this, but if he goes Panama to Colon or Christiba it's under a 100 km ride, so the actual cycling would easily be doable in a day.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
