I'm a lady Mustachian, and my body just doesn't fit well in standard shift-type dresses (too hourglass-y, the fabric always looks bunched up over my hips). I'm in a semi-corporate environment where a blazer over a dress is absolutely adequate.
My solution: find 2-3 blazers that fit perfectly, and get dresses at eshakti (NOTE: if anyone wants 40$ off their first order, PM me and I can send you a code that would get us both 40$ off - win/win.)
A lot of their dresses are 80$+, BUT, trick: they continually run 50% off sales. If you shop on a mobile device (phone or tablet), they give an additional 20% off. And then you add 40$ off coupons (from referrals) on every order. For 7.50$, you can get anything on the site made-to-measure to your specific measurements, and also change a lot of elements about their clothing. For example. I got a black, fitted (fits like a GLOVE and makes me look like I wriggled out of Mad Men), knee-length sheath. I alterned the neckline, the length, the sleeves (sleeveless bunches up less under blazers). It's made incredibly well (french seams and all), fits perfectly, and cost 40$, made-to-measure and with alterations.
A lot of their dresses are a bit too casual for most workplaces, but most of them can be altered to be a bit more conservative while still being really flattering and comfortable.
