If one spouse has a Chase online account with multiple existing Chase credit cards and the other spouse wants to apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred card, could they apply as themselves, but then use the other spouse's existing online account? Or, would they create their own online account, and then link the two online accounts for easier management.  I realize you could also just add an additional cardholder, but I could see potentially having 2 Chase Sapphire Preferred credit cards (one for each spouse) and I assume you lose the sign-up bonus if it's just one Sapphire card with an additional cardholder.

That sounds about right- they would almost certainly need to set up a new & separate account to apply for a new (and identical) card. If it were me I would just have the spouse create a separate online account and get the sign-on bonus. Later you can close the account and add spouse as an additional cardholder on the existing account anyway.
